Reading Courses

Reading is a complex process of making meaning from texts. It is one of the receptive language modes:  as readers engage with texts, they process words, symbols or actions to derive and/or construct meaning. Reading includes interpreting, critically analysing and reflecting upon the meaning of a wide range of written and visual, print and non-print texts.

These PETAA courses cover a range of skills, knowledge and understandings to assist primary school educators in the teaching of this complex process, and focus on meaning making – drawing on students’ knowledge about the world and the topic, as well as the ways that text structure, grammatical choices and illustrations in the text contribute to intended and inferred meanings.
