PETAA membership terms and conditions
Reviewed May 2026
Scope of these terms
These terms govern:
- eligibility for PETAA membership
- membership duration and renewal
- access to membership benefits
- pausing, cancellation and refunds
- credits
- suspension or termination of membership
These terms do not replace or override terms that apply specifically to PETAA courses, publications, digital products or website use.
Membership types
PETAA offers the following membership types:
- Individual membership
- Student membership (free or paid, subject to eligibility)
- School membership
- Professional Learning Subscription School membership (school-wide professional learning access)
Membership benefits, access rights and pricing vary by membership type and are outlined on the PETAA website. PETAA may update membership benefits from time to time.
General eligibility
Membership is available to individuals and schools involved in English and literacy education. PETAA membership does not extend to organisations or individuals whose primary activities are competitive with PETAA as a not-for-profit professional association.
PETAA reserves the right to refuse, suspend or terminate membership where eligibility requirements are not met or where membership is used in a way that is inconsistent with PETAA’s purpose.
Student membership eligibility
Student membership is available to individuals currently enrolled in eligible primary education degrees, subject to the conditions published on the PETAA website.
- Free student membership is available to eligible full-time students.
- Paid student membership is available to eligible part-time students at a reduced rate.
By applying for student membership, you confirm that the information you provide regarding enrolment and eligibility is accurate. PETAA may request verification of student status and may suspend or cancel student membership if eligibility requirements are no longer met.
Student membership benefits differ from those of Individual or School memberships.
Membership term and renewal
PETAA memberships are issued for a 12-month period and expire on the last day of the month of the join or renewal date (for example, a membership joined in March expires on 31 March the following year).
Members may choose to join or renew for two years, where offered, at a discounted rate.
PETAA does not offer month-to-month memberships or monthly payment plans.
Members will be notified prior to expiry. If renewal payment is not received before the end of the membership term, membership will lapse and access to member benefits will cease.
Payment and activation
Payment must be received in full before membership benefits are activated, except where a free student membership applies.
Membership fees are non-refundable, except where required under the Australian Consumer Law or as otherwise stated in these terms.
Use of membership benefits
Membership provides licensed access to PETAA resources, services and benefits for the duration of the membership term. Membership does not confer ownership of any PETAA content.
Access to digital resources, platforms and services is subject to the Website Terms of Use, including rules relating to login credentials, appropriate use and access limits.
Membership benefits are non-transferable, except where expressly permitted (for example, school-based access under School or PL Subscription memberships).
Pausing or cancelling membership
Membership pauses
Membership pauses may be approved in extenuating circumstances (for example, parental leave), at PETAA’s discretion.
- Requests must be made in writing to [email protected]
- During a pause, access to membership benefits may be suspended.
- The membership expiry date may be adjusted where a pause is approved.
- It is the member’s responsibility to notify PETAA when they wish to reactivate their membership.
Membership cancellation
Memberships may be cancelled at any time by written request.
- Membership fees are not refundable for cancellation or change of mind. Where a refund is approved in exceptional circumstances at PETAA’s discretion, a $15.00 administration fee will apply.
- Free student memberships may be cancelled by written request to [email protected].
- Exceptional circumstances may be considered at PETAA’s discretion but do not include change of mind.
Credits
Credits recorded on a PETAA account may be used for eligible PETAA transactions, including:
- professional learning courses
- publications and digital products
- membership join or renewal fees
Credits are not redeemable for cash and may be subject to expiry or conditions as advised at the time of issue. To apply a credit, members must contact PETAA.
Suspension or termination
PETAA may suspend or terminate a membership, without refund, where:
- these terms or other PETAA policies are breached
- membership access is misused (including sharing login credentials outside permitted use)
- eligibility requirements are no longer met
- membership is used in a way that undermines PETAA’s purpose or operations
Where practicable, PETAA will notify the member of suspension or termination.
Privacy
PETAA’s Privacy Policy applies to personal information collected in connection with membership applications, renewals and use of membership services.
General
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy available under the Australian Consumer Law.
PETAA may update these terms from time to time. Updated terms apply to memberships joined or renewed after the date of publication.
