This course is a practical examination of the reading process and demonstrates strategies that support readers to comprehend texts and develop a love of reading. It provides evidence-based strategies that eliminate the stress and anxiety too often experienced by struggling readers. The course is about supporting struggling readers through to reading success.

Learning outcomes: 

  • Better understand who we mean by the struggling reader 
  • Explore the reading process and the critical role of comprehension for struggling readers 
  • Set struggling readers up for success by supporting them with evidence-informed teaching strategies

  • Literacy Coordinators
  • Literacy support staff

How does it work?

  • Individuals: upon registration individuals will be sent a link to access the PL on our online learning platform.
  • Group Booking: Schools interested in making a group booking should email us the number of teachers they wish to enrol in order to receive a quote.
  • PL Subscription: Access this course via the PL Subscription homepage. All PL subscription members receive free access to all online unmoderated courses.

 Completing this course comprises 4 hours (NSW - Elective PL) of online professional learning addressing standards 1.2.2, 3.2.2 and 5.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
