PP223: We’re going on a…QUEST! (hardcopy)
The escapist fantasy genre with its classic quest narrative, when represented in quality texts, can be a powerful tool in a teacher’s arsenal when expanding student knowledge, enriching student narrative writing and encouraging a passion for storytelling. This paper examines four different mentor texts, each employing their own form of narrative quest, identifying the main features of the quest in each text, providing examples, and supplying teaching content and activities in each case. The four texts analysed are We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, Beware the Deep Dark Forest, To the Bridge and The Glimme. A must-read for any primary literacy teacher excited about the teaching opportunities the quest narrative provides to inspire, excite and develop young readers and writers
