What is the course about?

In this course you will learn how the explicit teaching of vocabulary based on the three tiers model enhances children's ability to decode text, comprehend meaning, and express themselves fluently in written and oral communication. You will explore how vocabulary serves as the foundation of literacy, contributing to phonological awareness, phonics, and comprehension skills.

Participants will learn practical strategies to build vocabulary across grade and stage levels, and how to adapt activities to engage students in developing and utilising a broader range of vocabulary for writing and speaking. Participants will examine research and evidence-based practice on the implications for teaching and learning and learn how to integrate context-based strategies into the new NSW K-6 English syllabus contexts and Australian Curriculum Vs 9.
