This course is designed to provide teachers with an understanding of how and why we can support students in the joint construction of imaginative texts. Discussion of text choices will focus particularly on audience consideration and the combining of ideas. Oral language strategies will be shared to show how to shift from oral to more written like language at the point of planning for joint construction. Strategies such as think alouds and dialogic and monologic talk practices will be used in the context of working with model texts and supporting students during joint construction. Joint construction will be looked at during the planning, drafting and editing/reviewing phases in the process of writing.

Learning outcomes:

  • Explore a variety strategies to support planning for moving from modelling to joint construction
  • Examine text structure, text phases and language patterns to identify a focus for writing
  • Utilise the teaching and learning cycle and oral language strategies to review and develop a lesson sequence

This course is self-paced and unmoderated. All participants have access to materials for 365 days from the date they register.
