This course is presented in a sequence of integrated strategies, focused on an the CBCA award winning book Runt, by Craig Silvey. This is a text suitable for upper primary students. The course models how to carefully build knowledge and dialogue about a text, about language, and about reading and writing through meaningful and explicit teaching and learning activities. The approach presented in this course is based on the PETAA publication Teaching with Intent 2, by Helen Harper and Bronwyn Parkin and explores how mentor texts can be used to teach textual concepts.
Learning outcomes:
- Use a mentor text for narrative text study
- Understand how to go about analysing a study passage from Runt by Craig Silvey
- Use text analysis to make knowledge about language explicit, including knowledge about author’s intent, and knowledge about grammar and vocabulary.
- Connect close reading to writing

This course is self-paced and unmoderated. All participants have access to materials for 365 days from the date they register.
