This course is created by Dr. Leonie Arthur and Dr. Margery Hertzberg. 


Implementing play-based learning in early years classrooms provides opportunities for teachers to support learning across all learning areas of the Australian Curriculum. Play environments encourage social interactions and language use. It is through play-based learning that young learners explore and apply knowledge and understandings as individuals and as part of a group. 

Learning outcomes: 

  • Learn how to construct opportunities for play within the learning program/environment
  • Make clear connections between play and curriculum content.
  • Model, support, initiate and generate play to support literacy.
  • Understand the importance of play for language and literacy learning
  • Recognise the teacher's role play-based language and literacy learning
  • Employ practical strategies for play-based language and literacy learning

How does it work?

  • Individuals: upon registration individuals will be sent a link to access the PL on our online learning platform.
  • Group Booking: Schools interested in making a group booking should email us the number of teachers they wish to enrol in order to receive a quote.
  • PL Subscription: Access this course via the PL Subscription homepage. All PL subscription members receive free access to all online unmoderated courses.
