What is the course about?
This course, delivered by Dr. Simmone Pogorzelski, provides essential strategies for early reading instruction, focusing on decodable texts, systematic phonics, and a range of reading materials to build fluency and comprehension. By using decodable texts aligned with phonetic knowledge, students develop key decoding skills and gain confidence in reading. Systematic phonics instruction ensures long-term success, while exposure to diverse texts fosters both skill development and a love for reading. Participants will learn about the early stages of the reading process and how to support each stage. Practical examples of small group teaching are included allowing participants to see instruction in action.

About your facilitator:
Dr. Pogorzelski is a lecturer and researcher in the School of Education at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia. She has over 20 years of experience working in a range of research, training, and development roles, primarily in the field of literacy. She has supported schools and teachers to implement effective reading instruction and led the development of early literacy and reading intervention programs that have achieved national scale. Simmone's research interests focus on language and literacy development in the early years of school, effective reading instruction, assessment, and intervention. As part of her doctoral research, she investigated the role of text in the development of beginning reading.

- Group Booking: School account holder must email us the names, job titles and email addresses of teachers they wish to enrol. An invoice will then be provided for payment.
- Cancellations without transfer of booking to alternative session received less than five working days before the course will incur a $50 cancellation fee per delegate.
