Song

Listening to music and experiences of music making have the ability to grow, change and repair our brains. Our music processing networks help us learn how to speak, and music and reading share overlapping neural networks (Collins, 2020). Clapping in time, for example, works the same neural mechanisms that are used by early readers as they decode new words and texts. Teachers across all primary year levels can harness music and song to support sensory, memory and cognitive systems, which in turn encourage concentration and focus, stimulate reading skills development, and help illuminate the relationships between letters and sounds.
