Australian Curriculum: English sub-strands: Literature – Creating Literature; Literacy – Creating texts

Provide students with a guide to assist them in refining and editing their work. This guide should include criteria that:

  • the events in the story are exciting and lead up to the final event chosen
  • a variety of effective nouns and adjectives are used to create interest and excitement
  • a variety of verbs and adverbs are used to create interest and excitement
  • events are linked in a believable way
  • dialogue has been used correctly
  • a variety of sentence types are used for effect and correctly structured.

Assessment of learning

Review students’ writing using the criteria, noting areas of strength and areas for further development for the whole class and individual students. Provide feedback to students.

Students will: Independently write narratives. Use the rubric to edit own work and that of a partner, providing feedback that gives guidance for improving the final product. Share completed work with the class. Publish their work in preparation for Video conference Part 2, including a book cover for their work that has key elements of the plot in its design.
