PETAA Guide to Children's Book Week 2024: Text recommendations and curriculum units
We have created a guide to the rich texts of CBCA Children’s Book Week 2024, highlighting the texts we recommend for meaningful English, literacy and cross-curriculum learning across the primary years. It doubles as a great preview of the curriculum units of work we're creating for members this year – you’ll know which books to find or request for your school library! These are the books we've selected from this year's CBCA Notables and Shortlists that will best connect to curriculum and syllabus requirements, inspire learners, and allow for explicit instruction.
For each text covered in this guide, we provide potential cross-curriculum links (including general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities); recommended year groups; and a short blurb detailing the book's contents and why we believe it's suitable for using as a rich text in primary classrooms.
Every curriculum unit based on the books in this guide will be built in our new-look format, with clear learning intentions, thoughtful rationale and rich assessment tasks at the forefront.
