It includes strategies, poems and discussion lead by author, poet, and experienced teacher, Dr Sally Murphy. Sally will present theory explaining why poetry is important; drawing on theories and research. There will be a focus on ways to read/examine poetry and also on how to teach poetry writing skills. Teachers will write their own poems exploring various strategies that can be used with their students.
Participants will:
- Acquire new strategies for sharing poetry in primary classrooms.
- Become familiar with contemporary poetry resources
- Link poetry to other literacy objectives, and cross-curricular objectives
