Exploring the 2015 CBCA Short List
Introduction and advice on using the 2015 teachers’ guide
In the 70th Anniversary Year of the Children's Book Council of Australia ‘Exploring the CBCA Short List’ is again provided as a concise teaching resource online, and this year as an offering for members and others in both Australia and New Zealand.
Literature from contemporary authors and illustrators can be a powerful and inspiring tool for teachers. Using especially selected titles in your classroom adds authenticity and excitement to discovering literature at all ages and stages of learning. Our 2015 Guide, built upon a very rich short list in 2015, offers an abundance of teaching opportunities, with activities for students from Foundation to Year 8, mapped to content descriptions of the Australian Curriculum: English with links across to the new HASS years F–6/7 curriculum, and to Mathematics and Science.
We hope you'll agree, when you come to use these materials to support the discovery of new books in class, that every unit of work in this guide pays a compliment to the book and all the love and work and imagination each book encopmasses and shares. This introduction includes mention of just some of the other resources you can discover and use, especially as a PETAA member, to further support and inform your teaching practice.
