Supporting EAL/D students in our classrooms is a three-part course designed to address the contributions and educational needs of diverse EAL/D students in Australian schools, including those who have recently arrived and who may be from refugee backgrounds. Drawing upon principles and practices of EAL/D pedagogy to support mainstream and EAL/D teachers in planning and implementing programs that meet the needs of EAL/D students in mainstream classes, teachers will learn how to identify specific teaching and learning practices that can best support the educational development of their EAL/D students.

  • Teachers - Years F-6
  • Teachers of EAL/D students, including New Arrivals 


What else do I need to know?

Participation in these courses can be one off or done as a series of three separate sessions. It is recommended all three be done in sequence.

Completing this course contributes to 4 hours of online Professional Learning addressing 1.3.2 and 1.5.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

For NSW teachers: Completing Supporting EAL/D students in our classrooms Part 3: Building substantive communication to support EAL/D students will contribute 4 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptors 1.3.2 and 1.5.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
