It includes strategies, poems and discussion lead by author, poet, and experienced teacher, Dr Sally Murphy. Sally will present theory explaining why poetry is important; drawing on theories and research. There will be a focus on ways to read/examine poetry and also on how to teach poetry writing skills. Teachers will write their own poems exploring various strategies that can be used with their students.

Participants will:

• Acquire new strategies for sharing poetry in primary classrooms.
• Become familiar with contemporary poetry resources
• Link poetry to other literacy objectives, and cross-curricular objectives

Completing this workshop will contribute 5 hours of face to face professional learning addressing 2.2.2,6.3.3  from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
