Participants will apply explicit language/grammatical knowledge to closely observe how readers are engaged, how the texts are cohesive and how writers introduce the topic/orientation. With support, students can develop knowledge about how language/grammar works to construct meaning, how sentence fluency can be achieved, and how personal connections and critical comprehension may be accomplished. Excerpts from several recent CBCA award winning texts (both fiction and non-fiction) are our text examples, and participants are asked to bring their own quality texts to apply the demonstrated knowledge.

Teachers of students Foundation to Year 6

Cost of Participation:

Completing this workshop will contribute 5 hours of face to face professional development addressing 2.1.2, 2.2.2, 3.2.2,.3.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation. 

Accreditation for NSW teachers:  Completing Actively noticing the craft of writing: attentive teaching with mentor texts  before 31 July 2021 under NESA’s interim arrangements will contribute 5 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW curriculum addressing standards 2.1.2, 2.2.2, 3.2.2, 3.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
