15 quality texts for children featuring poetry, rhyme, and verse

Looking for texts that will help you to teach poetry in the classroom?  Many of the literature-based teaching units in the PETAA resource archive feature rhyme, verse, and poetry (especially our vast collection of picture book units for early learning and lower primary!) but it can be hard to identify the books that meet a specific genre or text type when you're browsing through - so we've compiled this list to help!

The list is organised by year group, and we've highlighted the themes contained in each text - they're all different, even though each of texts have their use of poetry and rhyme in common.

You can find the list below!

> Looking for more inspiration for teaching poetry in the classroom? View our on-demand member webinar Poetry for Life with Wendy Orr, author of Nim's Island, Dragonfly Song (included in the list below!), and Cuckoo's Flight - a novel partially written in verse that is spotlighted throughout the unit.

Many of these teaching units are available exclusively to PETAA members. Become a member to view the full collection of literature-based teaching units!
