Free download: A guide to rich texts for supporting Intercultural Understanding in the English and literacies classroom
Literature is a powerful tool for developing intercultural understanding in the classroom. Diverse literature serves as ‘mirrors, windows and sliding doors’ for the reader – mirrors are books that the reader can see themselves reflected in; windows allow the reader to see into the lives of others; and sliding doors give the reader access to step into the world of those different to themselves. The 11 texts featured in this guide have been selected from the 2022 CBCA list of Notable and Shortlisted lists (a couple are even category winners!) They represent a range of titles that will support the building of Intercultural Understanding.
The texts are
suitable for early childhood through to secondary school. See sample pages below, and enter your details to receive a copy of the list!
