Online Whole School: Supporting struggling readers
Presented by Dr Kaye Lowe, author of For The Love of Reading and Writing The Future. This workshop is a practical examination of the reading process and demonstrates strategies that support readers to comprehend texts and develop a love of reading. It provides evidence-based strategies that eliminate the stress and anxiety too often experienced by struggling readers.
This course is self-paced.
Whilst we encourage individuals to join this course, it is also ideally suited to whole school Professional Learning as the modules can be studied at staff meetings at times to suit your school. To find out more about this option email or call Alicia Diggs on 02 8020 3923.
You will have access to the course material for 10 weeks.
Why participate?
- The workshop is about motivating disinterested students to engage with reading and writing. It explores how to organize the literacy block so that the needs of all readers are accommodated in the classroom.
- This workshop incorporates the syllabus as it relates to the literacy strand and addresses the use of literature as a key component of literacy teaching.

Completing this course will contribute approximately 5 hours of online Professional Learning addressing 1.5.2 ,2.5.2 3.1.2 , 3.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation.
For NSW teachers: Completing this course by 4 February 2022 under NESA’s interim arrangements will contribute 5 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and Assessment of NSW Curriculum addressing standard descriptors 1.5.2, 2.5.2, 3.1.2, 3.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
