Online: Handwriting & keyboarding in the 21st century

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL - PLEASE SEE NEXT COURSE RUNNING FROM 2ND MAY. Presented by Dr Noella Mackenzie.  Contemporary writing incorporates a variety of traditional, digital, multimodal, and visual literacy forms, with the written word still central to most texts.

Deborah Brandt (2015) suggests that writing is taking over reading as the literacy skill of critical consequence in the current era (p. 161). In this online course, Dr Noella Mackenzie will provide rationales for continuing to teach handwriting, as well as the keyboarding skills necessary for writing on a computer. Contemporary research supporting the teaching of handwriting and keyboarding (much of which comes from outside the field of education) will be shared. She will also explore suggestions for what and how to teach both handwriting and keyboarding including: what to teach, how to teach, and how to assess.

 This course is self-paced.
