A series of online unmoderated modules designed to present a theoretical framework for teaching reading and enhancing literacy through the visual image.

Year 1 & 2

  • Module 1 - Viewing and visual literacy
  • Module 2 - Visual metalanguage
  • Module 3 - Teaching and assessing viewing: a pedagogical framework
  • Module 4 - Years 1 & 2 lessons
  • Module 5 - Planning for viewing lessons

What else do I need to know? 
This course is designed as a companion professional development resource for the text, The potential of the visual: Teaching literacy with multimodal texts.

How does it work?

  • Individuals: Upon registration individuals will be sent a link to access the PL on our online learning platform.
  • Whole schools: One staff member must register on behalf of their school. They can choose to have a single link to view this together or can email us the names and email addresses of teachers they wish to enrol.
