This course supports professional learning communities in exploring the explicit teaching and learning of language within scientific units of work.


Teaching Oral and Written Language though Climate Change Science:

  • Module 1 – All participants (+1hr reading)
  • Module 2  Individuals or professional learning communities - select the relevant year level from Years F-2, Years 3-4, or Years 5-6  (+2hr reading)                                
  • Module 3  All participants (+1hr reading)


Why participate?

  • Develop an understanding of language and literacy skills required within the scientific classroom.
  • Unpack one of the many climate change topics related to the Australian Curriculum: Science.
  • Understand the language focus of each topic and access the many time-saving resources available to assist in your teaching.

What else do I need to know?  This course is designed as a companion professional development resource for the PETAA award-winning text, Teaching the language of climate change scienceThis text is required reading for this course.


How does it work?

  • Individuals: upon registration individuals will be sent a link to access the PL on our online learning platform.
  • Whole schools: One staff member must register on behalf of their school. They can choose to have a single link to view this together or can email us the names and email addresses of teachers they wish to enrol.
