2023 ONLINE: Handwriting & keyboarding in the 21st century

Presented by Dr Noella Mackenzie.  Contemporary writing incorporates a variety of traditional, digital, multimodal, and visual literacy forms, with the written word still central to most texts. This course is NESA approved.

Deborah Brandt (2015) suggests that writing is taking over reading as the literacy skill of critical consequence in the current era (p. 161).

Why Participate?

-Look at rationales for continuing to teach handwriting, as well as the keyboarding skills necessary for writing on a computer

-Examine contemporary research supporting the teaching of handwriting and keyboarding 

-Explore suggestions for what and how to teach both handwriting and keyboarding including: what to teach, how to teach, and how to assess.

Completing Handwriting and Keyboarding in the 21st Century will contribute 4-5  hours of online PD addressing standard descriptors 2.1.2, 2.2.2, 3.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers 

For NSW teachers: Completing Handwriting and Keyboarding in the 21st Century will contribute 4 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and Assessment of NSW Curriculum/EYLF addressing standard descriptors 2.1.2, 2.2.2, 3.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW. Additional time can be documented as Elective PD.

This course is self-paced.

Please note: this course is available from 06/02/2023 to 20/03/2023 Extensions for Online: Teaching handwriting & keyboarding in the 21st century cannot be granted unless under exceptional circumstances at PETAA’s discretion.
