Australian Curriculum: English sub-strand: Literacy — Creating texts

Independent writing—Video conference with Aaronn Blabey

In Session 2 Aaron Blabey, starting with a reading of a Sunday Chutney story by Ursula Dubosarsky, then listens to and responds to students from the various schools reading their stories, and demonstrates his visual approach to developing characters. (Note that the recording is of low quality, being the recording by classroom-based video conference cameras and is 46 minutes in duration).

Assessment of learning

Students will create a narrative that focuses on a school swimming carnival that Sunday is attending. Students may select to have Sunday as the main character or create their own character. Students will draw on their knowledge of visual imagery and illustration techniques to illustrate their work.

Students will: Draw on understandings and knowledge developed during the unit to place Sunday in a new situation to develop and illustrate a narrative episode.

Share self-assessment criteria with students.

Students will: Students use rubric to assess their own writing.
