Assessment of Learning

Australian Curriculum: English: Literacy — Creating texts

Using Literacy Circles give groups Comprehension Dice to discuss and review each book. Listen to responses from group members to evaluate understanding of texts at a literal and inferential level. Use probe questions to assist students to express deep levels of understanding.

Share the pen to create a story map of The Deep End with students.

Working as a group discuss and retell the events that occurred in both books using Literacy Dice.

Create a Story Map of The Deep End using illustrations and captions. This can be done on an interactive whiteboard. Label the map using language from the book.
