Australian Curriculum: English sub-strand: Literature — Responding to Literature; Examining Literature

Over an extended time, shared or guided reading of text.

Students will: As they read the novel, students will storyboard the main events such as, Xavier’s arrival, meeting Jeremiah, and Isabella’s encounter with the sneaker wave.

Model the storyboard using the interactive whiteboard, Comic Life or Time Toast.

Students will: Using an interactive whiteboard, Comic Life or Time Toas, students will add short captions using precise descriptive language or dialogue to explain each event. The story boards should include the main characters and settings.

Exploring climate change

Australian Curriculum: English sub-strand: Literature — Responding to Literature; Examining Literature

Divide students into groups. Provide digital and print material on issues that relate to climate change. Resources might be found from the Sustainable Schools website or at the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage site i am making a difference.

Students to record key information under headings ‘Issue’ / ‘Consequences’

Ask groups to select one issue and consequence to highlight in an electronic poster.

Students record findings. Assist students in the formation of posters.

Supervise class presentations.

Students will: Students in groups will investigate climate change and how it may affect our world. Create a Glogster poster. Students will present their posters to the class.
