You probably know that trees provide shelter for many Australian birds and animals, but did you know that Aboriginal people use trees for medicine, for tools, for fishing baskets and even for delicious cups of tea? The book highlights the impact of deforestation on the environment and wildlife and concludes with a call to action to take care of the trees we have and to plant new ones.

Why PETAA chose this book for a curriculum unit: In the lower primary classroom this book is a wonderful introduction to the important role that trees play within an ecosystem as well as the significance that they have to Aboriginal people. It can act as a catalyst for exploring the trees in your local area and considering the role that they play in supporting the birds, animals and people that live in the area. The book has authentic links to the History, Geography and Science curriculum and is a wonderful way to weave First Nations perspectives into teaching and learning.
