How can we introduce language-focused science in the primary school? How can a classroom teacher use specialist science teacher knowledge to improve understanding about climate change and literacy outcomes?

Presented by Dr Bronwyn Parkin, the purpose of this course is to help you identify language goals for your students within the all-important science topic of climate change. These language goals are set beyond what students can already do, to help with language development, with moving them up the register continuum.

This course is ideal for studying with colleagues in staff meeting times over 4 weeks. The whole staff together does Module 1, then teachers break into year groups for the next two weeks , then come together for Module 3.

• Module 1: for all participants (1 hour plus reading)
• Module 2: individuals or professional learning communities: choose the year levels most relevant to you  (2 hours plus reading and classroom practice)
  Foundation - Yr 2       OR       Years 3-4       OR     Years 5-6
• Module 3: for all participants (1 hour including reading)
