Play-based learning is seeing a resurgence in the classroom and is especially beneficial with literacy and language learning. This practical course will provide teachers with a range of strategies to plan for, scaffold and assess play-based language and literacy learning.

Why participate?

• Learn practical strategies including language and literacy-enriched dramatic play, readers’ theatre, puppetry, story re-enactment the creative arts.
• Examine the role of teachers in advocating for play-based learning with families and the broader community.

Who should participate?

• K–2 classroom teachers
• Classroom teachers in early childhood education, pre-schools and care settings
• EAL/D teachers with students across the primary grades.

How does it work?

• Individuals: upon registration individuals will be sent a link to access the PL on our online learning platform.
• Whole schools: One staff member must register on behalf of their school.
  They can choose to have a single link to view this together or can email us the names and email addresses of teachers they wish to enrol. 

Completing this course will provide 3 hours (NSW - NESA Approved) of Professional Learning (NSW) addressing 1.2.2 and 2.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

This course is NESA Approved For NSW teachers: Completing Play-based language and literacy learning will contribute 3 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptors 1.2.2 and 2.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.     Suggested texts:   Purchase here
