Online: Supporting struggling readers

Presented and moderated by Dr Kaye Lowe, author of For The Love of Reading and Writing The Future. This workshop is a practical examination of the reading process and demonstrates strategies that support readers to comprehend texts and develop a love of reading. It provides evidence-based strategies that eliminate the stress and anxiety too often experienced by struggling readers.

This course is self-paced.

Why participate?

  • The workshop is about motivating disinterested students to engage with reading and writing. It explores how to organize the literacy block so that the needs of all readers are accommodated in the classroom. 
  • This workshop incorporates the syllabus as it relates to the literacy strand and addresses the use of literature as a key component of literacy teaching.

Completing this course will contribute approximately 5 hours of online Professional Learning addressing 1.5.2 ,2.5.2 3.1.2 , 3.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation. 

For NSW teachersCompleting this course by 4 February 2022 under NESA’s interim arrangements will contribute 5 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and Assessment of NSW Curriculum addressing standard descriptors 1.5.2, 2.5.2, 3.1.2, 3.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
